What is up with Sacramento leaders?

First two of our county supervisors support resolutions on Iraq and now Mayor Heather Fargo thinks dealing with global warming need to be Sacramento’s top priority.  Don’t get me wrong we should care about what pollutants we are putting in the air, ground , and water, but a top priority for a city government?  I can understand comments like this from specific local agencies like DERA.

The Sacramento City Council’s top priorities should be traffic, flood control, crime, etc.  Fargo stated that she doesn’t think being green is just hip or trendy and to that I say bull.  It is all the rage (am I showing  my age) to be green.  Was climate change, global warming, or whatever they are calling it not a problem last year?

“We will go over, under and straight through problems to get this done.   Period.  At next year’s State of the Downtown we will talk about all the great groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings we have achieved.” – Heather Fargo Stats of the downtown speech 2007

Heather Fargo is just pandering to what she thinks is popular.  If Heather Fargo really wanted to help the environment she would work on the traffic congestion that plagues Sacramento.  Think of how many tons of pollutants we would not spew in the air if our commuter did not sit in gridlock.

Sacramento leaders need to lead on local issues that actually make Sacramento a better place not look for the most trendy issue to talk about.
