A group of US soldiers returned from Afghanistan today. They arrived at Mather Field early in the morning. There were 75 people in this California National Guard aviation unit. Most are from the Sacramento area and were deployed for about a year.
Members of Company C, 1-168th General Support Aviation Battalion arrived at Sacramento International Airport and were bused to Mather, where relatives carrying signs welcomed them. Bagpipes were playing as these hometown heros exited the bus.
While in Afghanistan, the unit performed medical evacuations for coalition forces as well as local nationals under the command of the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. The pilots, flight crewman and support staff logged 5,600 combat flight hours, flew 2,200 missions, transported and treated 3,400 patients and performed 51 combat hoists.
Welcome home and thank you for your service.
