UC Davis Pepper Spraying Cop Was Fired

UC Davis confirmed Tuesday night that the police officer at the center of its pepper spraying scandal last fall is no longer with the department.  According to the Sacramento Bee Lt. John Pike was fired by police Chief Matthew Carmichael.  UC Davis would not confirm he was fired, citing privacy concerns.

Pike was the officer that was seen on camera spraying down students with pepper spray during an Occupy UC Davis rally last November. Pike was put on paid administrative leave following the incident. police chief, Annette M. Spicuzza, was also put on leave and eventually resigned in April. Many people felt at the time Pike should have been fired for his actions. Pike has been collecting a six figure salary while on leave.
