Copper Thieves Arrested in Fair Oaks


Earlier this morning shortly after 2:30 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to Will Rogers Middle School in the 4900 block of Dewey Drive, regarding a copper theft in progress. Upon their arrival, deputies found two bicycles and two backpacks near a fence that bordered the school property. Further investigation showed that a cellular phone tower at the location had been broken into.

Deputies detained Steven Dickson, 29, and Denise Anderson, 45, after they were found walking away from the school in a residential neighborhood. Anderson was in possession of a tool that deputies believe was used to break into the tower.

Dickson and Anderson were arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

DUI and Driver’s License Checkpoint


The Rancho Cordova Police Department will be holding a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Sobriety and Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday August 19th, 2011 in the City of Rancho Cordova.  The checkpoint will be operational that day from 8:00 pm to 2:00 am.

Officers will be checking drivers for signs of impairment, providing educational materials outlining the dangers of driving while impaired, and checking for driver’s licenses. This checkpoint operation will be conducted utilizing funds from a grant provided to the Rancho Cordova Police Department by the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS).

Vehicle Vandalism Spree in Antelope


Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a series of vandalism incidents to vehicles throughout the Antelope area. Shortly after 4:40a.m. today, deputies responded to a call in the 3900 block of Diane Drive, regarding a vehicle’s windows that had been smashed. Throughout the next hour, additional calls came in from residents living on surroundings streets in the area. Deputies discovered vehicles that had windows broken in the 3400 block of Davidson Drive, 8300 block of Northam Drive, and the 8000 block of Citron Court.

Further investigation in the area resulted in the discovery of dozens of additional victims of this same type of vandalism. It appears that the possible means to commit these vandalisms might have been with the use of BB or pellet guns. While investigation into these incidents continues, deputies believe that the crimes were likely committed by the same individual(s). At this time, no suspect information is available.

Detectives Seek Public’s Help to Identify Robbery Suspect


Sheriff’s detectives are looking to identify a man responsible for robbing a Chase Bank in the Foothill Farms area late yesterday afternoon. On July 18th at 4:10p.m., the suspect entered the bank and presented the teller with a demand note. After receiving money, the suspect was seen running out to a light blue or silver Toyota Prius being driven by a white female believed to be in her early 20’s. The vehicle turned westbound onto Madison Avenue toward I-80.

The bank’s security cameras captured images of the suspect (see attached). He is described as a white or Eastern European male adult. He is approximately 5’6” to 5’8” tall, with a slender build. The suspect had a short, military-style haircut. He was wearing dark, gold-rimmed sunglasses, a black collared button-down shirt and blue jeans.

Homicide Suspect Arrested for Weekend Shooting Death


Earlier this morning, Sheriff’s homicide detectives arrested 38-year old Manuel Guzman for the shooting death of Mario Rodriguez at a Foothill Farms apartment last Sunday evening. Guzman was taken into custody at a residence outside of Sacramento County shortly past midnight today, and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on one charge of homicide. He is being held without bail.

On July 17, 2011 at approximately 11:45 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a man that had been shot at the Alder Grove Apartments in the 3900 block of Madison Avenue. Deputies arrived and found the victim, Rodriguez, dead of a single gunshot wound to his upper body.

Annual Kaleo’s 5K Run


On August 7, 2011, the Sacramento Sheriff’s K9 Association will hold Kaleo’s 5K Run and 1-Mile Walk at the Sacramento Sheriff’s Training Academy, located at 1000 River Walk Way in Carmichael. This event was founded in 2009 to raise money for Kaleo, a K9 unit at that time who was fighting cancer.

Thanks to the proceeds raised at the 2009 event, the Sheriff’s K9 Association was able to cover the cost of Kaleo’s surgery, radiation therapy and chemotherapy treatments. Kaleo is now thriving while enjoying retired life with his handler’s family. This annual event is designed to ensure that K9 partners receive the treatment they need during their retirement years.

Suspect Surrenders to Deputies after Shooting


At 4:50 p.m. today, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 4900 block of Little Oak Lane in Sacramento. Information at the time of the call was that a female had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, and that the male suspect was still at the scene.

Upon deputies’ arrival, they were directed toward the apartment where the incident took place. As they approached the apartment, a male emerged and was detained by deputies. He was later identified as 20-year old LeVaughn Gaines. Inside the apartment, deputies found a 20-year old female victim, who had sustained six gunshot wounds to her neck, upper body, and extremities. She was transported to a local hospital, and was expected to survive her injuries. Deputies also located a firearm, which was believed to be used to commit the shooting, inside the apartment. A female relative, who was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting, was unharmed.

Homicide Suspect Arrested after Brief Standoff

Earlier this afternoon, Sheriff’s detectives arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of a man at an apartment complex in north Sacramento County last week. Patrick Godines, 26, was taken into custody and booked into the Sacramento County Jail for murder. He is ineligible for bail at this time.

On July 29, 2011, at about 12:15 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a man who had been shot in an apartment in the 5700 block of Manzanita Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body. The victim, later identified as Michael Sanderson, 54, was transported to a hospital and later died of his injuries.

Investigation into this homicide led detectives to the identification of Godines as a suspect in this incident. Godines was believed to be at a home in the 7400 block of Stella Way. Upon detectives’ arrival at that residence this afternoon, two males and a small child were contacted, and exited the home. Detectives confirmed at that time that Godines was inside. Detectives surrounded the home and called Godines out. After waiting inside for approximately thirty minutes, Godines exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

Airport Traveler Caught with Gun, Arrested


At approximately 5:45 a.m. today, Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Airport Division responded to a security check point in Terminal B at the Sacramento International Airport. During a screening process, personnel from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) believed that a passenger was carrying what appeared to be a firearm in his checked baggage. A search of the passenger’s property revealed a loaded handgun along with several rounds of live ammunition in a magazine.

The passenger, identified as 22-year old Deon TURNER, was arrested without incident. TURNER was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges including unlawful possession of a loaded, concealed firearm, and carrying a weapon in a public place. TURNER is being held on $10,000 bail.

Fatal Shooting at Apartment Complex


Earlier this morning, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 5700 block of Manzanita Avenue in north Sacramento. Upon their arrival, deputies were directed to an apartment where they discovered a male adult in his 50’s. The victim had sustained a gunshot wound to his upper torso. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died of his injuries.

Deputies contacted a man who informed them that he had been at the apartment when the shooting took place. This witness stated that after knocking on the door of the apartment, two males forced their way inside. The witness was knocked to the ground and detained by one suspect, while the other suspect confronted the victim in another room of the house. The witness heard a gunshot, and then the two suspects fled from the apartment. The witness gave chase, but was unable to catch them. Upon returning to the apartment, the witness discovered that the victim had been shot.
