Youth reaching out to youth…that’s what Friday, December 10 at Cosumnes River Elementary in Sloughhouse was all about. Kristi Hall, CRES teacher, wanted the students to experience the “gift of giving” during this year’s annual Toys for Tots Campaign. Students and staff, in conjunction with the U.S. Marines, U.S. Air Force, Todd Dierdorf of Toys for Troops’ Kids and RM Kiwanis Club, worked tirelessly to make this year’s campaign a special experience.
SSgt. Dewitt and Sgt. Lango of the Marine Corps and Air Force representatives were on hand at Friday’s event. Students and other attendees were entertained with Christmas songs sung by Mr. Ancheta’s 4th grade class. CRES students donated more than 220 gifts as well as $1,126 in change and donations. The money collected was presented to the U. S. Marine’s Toys for Tots and to Mr. Dierdorf for Toys for Troops’ Kids for the purchase of additional gifts.

I had to ask myself how such a decision came to be…. how could each man knowingly cast a vote that will destroy a local small business?

Some districts, like Folsom Cordova, are already in their second week of school, but for a majority of the districts today is the end of a hopefully fun filled summer and back to building of a foundation that will help them succeed into the future.
For most kids the school they are attending will be the same as last year or one that has seen many kids through the years. With the downturn of the economy and housing market we have not seen many new schools built in recent years. Many districts have even started to consolidate and close schools. That is not the case for this year’s students attending Cosumnes River Elementary School in Sloughhouse. Students at Cosumnes River Elementary School, or as most of the local residents call it CRES, are attending a brand new school today.

Developer dollars make businesses disappear at least for Sacramento County staff. Looks like a developer has told the Sacramento County Planning Department that an entire shopping center did not exist. The developer was there to save the day with their new construction project. The county could not see past the dollar to see that an entire shopping complex already existed. I love this quote from the Sacramento Bee article.
