The Department of Justice announced which law enforcement departments across the country will get federal grant money. Sacramento made the list and will be getting new officers.
The Sacramento Police Department is getting more than $8 million from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. They will use the money to hire 25 additional officers. Sacramento Sheriffs was also awarded a grant to retain or hire deputies.

The Sacramento Police Department will be using new surveillance cameras to help monitor large scale events and other areas within the city.
The Police Department was awarded $600,000 by the California Emergency Management Agency to purchase surveillance equipment. The award was the result of efforts by Mayor Kevin Johnson to get additional funding to assist in making our community safer.

It’s a good day for the Sacramento Police Department. One of their K-9 officer named Bandit underwent five hours of surgery Tuesday for a bullet wound that was more serious than initially thought.
Bandit is a 4 year old German shepherd that was shot in the line of duty. Police later shot and killed suspected robber that had shot Bandit.
Bandit’s partner, officer Gary Dahl was emotional at times when he discussed Bandit’s condition. The surgery was more complicated than originally thought, but Bandit is expected to make a full recovery.
