Between April 15 and June 30, senior citizens age 65 or older and disabled people living within the Elk Grove Unified School District, and having no school-age children living in the home, may apply for a 70 percent reduction in their Measure A assessment, a local property tax that funds school improvement.
Under 1987’s Measure A, people who live in home built before 1987 pay $45.84 a year, but with the reduction, they would pay $13.75. Residents whose homes were built between January 26, 1987 and June 30, 1998, pay $117.84 annually, but with the reduction they would pay $35.35. The lower rates also apply to apartments and mobile homes.

It’s tax day! Have you filed your return? If not a few post offices will stay open until midnight so you can get your return post marked with April 15th date. The West Sacramento post office at 3775 Industrial Road and the Stockton location at 3131 Arch-Airport Road will both stay open until midnight.
If you need an extension it also must be filed by midnight tonight. To get a federal extension you can use form 4868. An extension will give you until October 15th 2010 to file your return.
