No Visible Security Increase for Brown


In the wake of the Arizona shootings many politicians accross this country are on heightened aler. Governor Jerry Brown had no visible increase in security the Monday morning after that tragedy in Tucson Arizona.

Jerry Brown made it clear from his first days in office he was not going to have the security detail that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had. Schwarzenegger was often seen with several black SUVs, a couple of sedans, and a few motorcycle officers. The CHP’s Protective Services Division is responsible for the Governor’s security as well as state courts, other state buildings, and most constitutional officers.

No free rides by CHP


As usual the Thanksgiving holiday is a maximum enforcement period for the California Highway Patrol. There is also a statewide “Click It or Ticket” campaign that started this week and runs through November 29th.

According to the CHP 37 people were killed during the Thanksgiving holiday period last year which was a 12% increase over 2008. The CHP would like to see that trend reversed.

Another pedestrian hit and killed on Sacramento area street


The California Highway Patrol is investigating a pedestrian fatality in Elverta on Friday morning. CHP Officer Lizz Dutton said Malkiat Hothi, 71, of Elverta, was struck and killed as he stepped onto Elverta Road west of El Rio Avenue at approximately 5:10 a.m.

The man was killed when a pickup truck hit him. The 32 year old driver was not identified. We do know he was a Yuba City man. The CHP said the driver was traveling in the eastbound lane of Elverta Road at about 50 miles per hour. It was dark out at the time and there are no street lights or sidewalks along that stretch of Elverta Road.

Good Samaritan was killed on Sacramento freeway


On a follow up to our earlier story, it has now been determined that the man killed this morning on Highway 99 was 49-year-old Robert M. Alverson of Sacramento

Deadly freeways in Sacramento today


Another deadly day in Sacramento freeways today. Highway 99 was closed dues to a deadly collision that the CHP is continuing to investigate. The northbound lanes of Highway 99 were closed most of the morning.

According to the California High Patrol the collision involved five vehicles and left the body of a man on the highway. Another accident on highway 99 involved 2 cars. The accidents were not realted.

Emu shot by CHP


The California Highway Patrol was forced to shoot an kill an emu is Sacramento yesterday. The CHP first tried to shoot the animal with a taser gun but eventually shot the animal as a safety measure.

The California Highway Patrol said at about 1 p.m., an officer was called on a report of a loose emu near Interstate 5 and Power Line Road. The bird was later seen walking in the eastbound lane of Bayou Road toward Airport Boulevard. CHP spokeswoman Lizz Dutton said the officer tried several times to corral the bird with his patrol vehicle, but the bird kept going westbound on Bayou Road.

One Man Killed in Sacramento Crash


Early this morning a man was killed in a car accident on Highway 99 in south Sacramento. five others were injured in a car accident. The accident occurred just before 1 a.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol a car travelling northbound on Highway 99 north of Mack Road lost control and hit the center divider. Another vehicle travelling behind hit that car, ejecting the driver upon impact. A family of five was in the second car that hit the vehicle in the center divide and were all taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
