Caltrans will be participating in the “Keep California Beautiful Day” and the “Great American Cleanup” campaign also involving various government and non-profit agencies and private companies. The activities will also allow the general public to dispose of their electronic waste at a designated site at the Capitol. CEAR (California Electronic Asset Recovery) will be providing the recyclable receptacles and McDonald’s will provide various disposal sites throughout the region, 13 in all.
Keeping California’s roadways clean is a never–ending battle for Caltrans and Adopt-a-Highway volunteers and contractors. As part of its efforts to relay the message of “Don’t Trash California” Caltrans will once again be conducting its annual litter pick-up day. Last year, Caltrans spent an estimated $50 million on litter removal, collecting over 141,000 cubic yards of litter for disposal which almost equaled approximately 8,860 garbage truckloads.
