Sunday morning a man died while riding his bike on Howe Ave over highway 50. The man was hit by an SUV. Alcohol did not appear to play a role in the accident according to authorities.
The accident occurred around 3:40 a.m. Sunday on Howe Avenue at the Highway 50 overpass. Sacramento police spokesman Konrad von said an officer in the area arrived shortly after the crash to find the victim, identified as Todd Mendon, 23, of Sacramento, lying in the traffic lane.
The SUV driver told officers she was driving on Howe and didn’t see Mendon. She only pulled over after she thought she ran over something in the roadway. Two officers performed CPR on Mendon, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
