The Sacramento Santa Parade is back on track after receiving a second chance when Mayor-elect Kevin Johnson donated $20,000.   The parade, which brings more than 25,000 spectators to downtown, had been canceled earlier in the week because of a shortfall in sponsorship funds. But organizers said Saturday that the 26th annual parade is back on and will take place Dec. 20.”Sacramento’s Santa Parade is an important tradition and a key part of our downtown economic development,” Johnson said Sunday. “Now more than ever, we need community events like the Santa Parade to bring our community together and drive traffic to our local businesses.”Johnson said he had $20,000 left over from his inauguration account that was donated to the parade. The event will start at 10 a.m. at Ninth and I streets and travel throughout downtown.More than 60 local organizations are set to participate, including floats, marching bands, clowns, youth groups, horses, antique vehicles and more.”This parade is part of the fabric of our community,” spokeswoman Laurie Hensley said. “We are so thankful to all of this year’s sponsors, participants and volunteers for coming together to give the parade a second chance.”Johnson said he hopes his contribution will motivate people to spend money on local businesses.
