The Sacramento Mountain Lions played a valiant season opener, but in the end they lost lost to the Hartford Colonials. The score was 27-10. This was the first United Football League game for both teams. The Colonials had strong performance and the win was well deserved.
Colonials’ quarterback Josh McCown completed 11 of 21 passes for 265 yards and three touchdowns and former UConn star Andre Dixon led all rushers with 94 yards on 21 carries.
Sacramento QB Dante Culpepper had a long afternoon, completing 21 of 40 passes for a total of 174 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The game ended with Culpepper sacked by Hartford’s Austin English.
Mountain Lions’ Cory Ross led the team with 22 yards on 14 carries while Rod Windsor led in receiving with five catches for 55 yards.
The Sacramento Mountain Lions will play the Florida Tuskers on Sept. 25 at CSU Sacramento’s Hornet stadium.
