Sacramento has a new police chief
Cheered by his family, city officials and scores of smartly uniformed officers, Rick Braziel was sworn in Wednesday morning as Sacramento’s 43rd police chief.
Hundreds of guests at the Sacramento Community Theater looked on as city officials and fellow officers paid homage to outgoing chief Albert Najera and expressed optimism that Braziel will carry on Najera’s tradition.
I will give Braziel a chance to prove himself, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done in Sacramento. Our police force per capita is too small. Of all the crimes listed on the Sacramento police department website only Larceny went down. All other crimes went up in 2006 and 2007 numbers are not posted. Just because this city is growing does not mean our crime needs to grow as well. I wish Braziel luck and hope he has the leadership Sacramento really needs.
