Sacramento Election Results

The polls closed at 8pm yesterday, but vote counting continued late into the night. While some of the results of the close races will not officially be known for days, most of the races are decided. Here are some of the highlights.

Meg Whitman is the Republican nominee for Governor, winning easily over Steve Poizner. She will meet up with Jerry Brown in November. U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina will face off with Barbara Boxer. Proving not all elections can be bought, PG&E backed prop 16 went down in flames.

Closer to home Scott Jones gathers more votes than Jim Cooper, however neither candidate received the 51% required so we will have a runoff in November. Councilman Robbie Waters was thrown out of office. Councilman Ray Tretheway may also be on his way out. New blood on the City Council will hopefully be a good thing for the city as the current council has failed miserably. While many incumbents had a tough time a few still are area favorites. Don Nottoli easily kept his position as Sacramento County Supervisor.

In all it was an interesting night with few surprises. Voter turn out was very low. On to November . . .
