Oak Park neighbors fight vs McDonalds

Residents of Oak Park are fighting a proposed McDonald’s. They site drive thru traffic as well as obesity as their main concerns. Proponents says the traffic is already there and eating at McDonald’s is a choice. Most agreed that a McDonald’s would bring jobs to the highly depressed neighborhood.

McDonald’s franchisee owner, John Ritchey, will ask the Sacramento City Council to make the final call. Ritchey says his store will hire about 50 people. He also says his drive thru traffic is already driving down the street and will not create additional traffic.

22% percent of Oak Park families live below the poverty line and are more likely to be overweight compared to other parts of the county. Almost half of the Oak Park kids are obese. Many proponents state these facts to suggest Oak Park residents simply have no self-control if they think McDonald’s will make them fat. No one is forcing you to eat there said one resident.
