Northern California Fireball

There have several reports of a fireball in the sky over Sacramento last night. The Orionid meteor shower is the likely culprit.

The Orionid meteor shower peaks around October 21st. “Earth is passing through a stream of debris from Halley’s Comet, the source of the Orionids,” accordinf to NASA officials. “Flakes of comet dust hitting the atmosphere should give us dozens of meteors per hour.”

“It went across the sky like a silent firework then appeared to break up. It appeared green in color.” according to one tweet we saw.
