Man steals crane and knocks down power polls

A man in his 50’s stole a crane and took police on a slow speed chase. During the chase the man knocked down 10 power polls, knocking out power to thousands of SMUD customers. This was the morning topic on Rancho Murieta Online.

The California Highway Patrol reports that Just after 1 a.m., officers responded to reports of a man driving a large crane with the headlights off near Excelsior Road and Highway 16. The man refused to stop for officers. He raised the boom and started knocking down power polls, signal lights, and trees.

The man surrendered on Dillard Rd and Highway 16. The motive for the theft was unknown and the CHP did not feel the man was under the influence of drug or alcohol. The man was booked at the Sacramento County Jail and is being charged with driving a stolen vehicle, and assault with a deadly weapon.
