One person is confirmed dead in a head-on crash on Jackson highway in Rancho Murieta. Two others were injured, one critically. The crash occurred at the corner of Jackson Highway (Highway 16) and Murieta Parkway. The local Rancho Murieta Forums included live reports from the scene. According to the CHP a motorhome was hit head on by a pickup truck. The motorhome caught fire and one of the victims was trapped underneath it. The fatality was a female passenger of the motorhome. The other passenger of the motorhome was transported by ambulance. A dog was also rescued from the motorhome. The driver of the truck was an 18-19 year old male. He swerved into the lane of the motorhome hitting it head on.
The accident sparked a nearby grass fire which was brought under control by around 1:30. A water helicopter was called in to help fight the fire.
Jackson highway was closed at the Michigan Bar junction with Ione Road on Jackson Highway and Jackson at Murieta North. The road is estimated to remain closed until around 3:30pm.
