Elk Grove Unified School District Boundary Update

This is an update to the story we brought you last week. At their January 18, 2011 meeting, the Elk Grove Unified School District’s Board of Education directed staff to adjust the boundary proposal for Robert J. Fite, Carroll, Elliott Ranch and Joseph Sims elementary schools to begin in the 2012-2013 school year.

The January 18 meeting was the first time that the Board had the opportunity to discuss public input about the boundary proposal. The district held 10 community meetings through December to gather input. The boundary conversations center on the exploration of a number of options to balance enrollment at secondary schools throughout the district.

Owner of the Sacramento Capitals charged with grand theft

The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office has charged Lonnie Crawford Nielson, 46, of Wilton with 12 counts of grand theft. The part owner of the Capitols professional tennis team is alleged to embezzled more than $760,000 from clients.

Nielson was the owner of a 1031 exchange business in which real estate sellers temporarily place their sale proceeds in a separate bank trust account until making a future purchase of real estate property.

Mother arrested in baby’s death

Mother arrested in baby’s death

Jennifer Derose Blanchette was arrested for the death of her 5-month old baby. According to the sheriff’s department, the Rancho Cordova mother was arrested in her apartment at Zinfandel Village on the 3500 block of Data Drive.

The 40 year old mother allowed deputies and Child Protective Services to enter the apartment. The authorities quickly located the body of the 5 month old. The Sacramento County coroner identified the child as Gracie Lynn Johnson.

Dave & Buster’s is coming to the Sacramento area

Have you heard the news?  Dave & Buster’s is coming to the Sacramento area.  Never heard of Dave & Buster’s?  You don’t know what you are missing.  They are like Chuck E. Cheese, but for adults and with great food and no giant mouse running around.  Dave & Buster’s newest location will be opening on May 3rd in Roseville.

The adult-focused restaurant chain was founded in 1982 and has grown to 50 locations.  Dave & Buster’s features interactive action games as well as old-school video games.  According to their website the Roseville location will have nearly 200 games, including Dance Dance Revolution and Nothing But Net, a one-on-one basketball game.  There are also several large, plasma screens for those noghts where you can’t miss the big game.  The diverse menu includes Philly Steak Rolls, chicken sandwiches, burgers, steaks, ribs, and big salads.
