Sacramento County supervisors are moving ahead with a $1.3 billion expansion to Sacramento International Airport despite objections by airlines.
The supervisors plan to increase airline fees to pay for a new terminal, hotel, parking garage and people-moving tram. They unanimously agreed this week to boost the fee the airport charges each airline, from an average of $6 to $9 per passenger. The fee hike would start July 1 and would top out at more than $13 per passenger in 2013 before being gradually being lowered.
While the airlines will pass the cost …

Sacramento got its first look Saturday at plans to extend the city’s Regional Transit light rail lines, carrying passengers from downtown Sacramento to the Sacramento International Airport.
At an open house on the project’s draft environmental impact report, attendees at Sacramento’s Inderkum High School got the chance to check out displays and talk with project team members about the 13-mile, 14-station light rail transit corridor expansion, which would run from downtown to the airport.
The extension would service areas earmarked for heavy development, including the downtown railyards project and the Richards Boulevard …

The city of Sacramento will likely head to court in January to force downtown property owner Moe Mohanna to sell his K Street properties.  The City Council voted Tuesday to authorize the court action, but it won’t be filed before year’s end, said Assistant City Manager John Dangberg.  Dangberg said city and redevelopment agency staff members and attorneys would be getting together the first week of January “to work all that out, as far as the exact filing date and so forth.”
Mayor Heather Fargo said Friday that the city shouldn’t …

I saw this little map in the Sacramento Bee
http://projects.scoopytube.com/foreclosures/map.html
It is interesting to see where the majority of foreclosures are occurring.   I think we will see the fallout from this for several more years to come.

According to forclosures.com, Sacramento County has 31,028 homes in Preforeclosure, 14,334 in auction, and 8,927 already bank owned.  This is some of the worst foreclosure rates in the country.  I think the Sacramento housing market was oversold.  Hopefully we can recover from 10’s of thousands of homes being foreclosed.

Huge spotlights illuminate buildings at Sacramento’s downtown railyards. The new owner of the property, Thomas Enterprises, wants to literally shine a light on the future of the site as it moves forward with plans to redevelop the land. It’s part of an effort to generate enough energy to push the project off of the drawing boards and into reality.
The project goes to Sacramento City Council for a vote just before Thanksgiving. It’s a $125 million project to transform the 244 acres into an entertainment, retail and residential complex.
“People have been …

The Crocker Art Museum officially broke ground today on its 125,000-square-foot expansion with a ceremony involving city and county officials and donors to the project. The groundbreaking begins a nearly three-year construction and move-in process with a grand opening expected in early 2010.
The new wing, designed by Gwathmey Siegel & Associates Architects of New York, is approximately 125,000 square feet and will more than triple the size of the current facility, adding four times the space for traveling exhibitions and three times the space for permanent collection exhibitions. The expansion …

Do you care about sprawl in the greater Sacramento area?  We need more infill projects, not large developments outside of urban areas.  Especially when those areas do not have the infrastructure to support the growth.  Rancho Murieta is one such area.  For those that are not familiar with Rancho Murieta, it is located about 25 miles from downtown up Jackson Highway.  Developers want to build thousands of new homes in Rancho Murieta.  In addition to destroying the topography and cutting down thousands of oak these news homes will increase sprawl …

I just read a story from the Associated Press and the title was Sacramento Losing ‘Cow Town’ Status, People Outnumber Cows In Sacramento County 22 To 1.  I have heard Sacramento referred to as a cow town or SacraTomato, but I have never really understood the cow town comment.  I lived in the area all of my life and while some parts of the county have a bunch of cows there are hardly enough to be our mascot and I have never seen a cow in the city limits.  If …
