Today’s lunchtime activity was all about Willie’s Burgers. I have heard some good things about this burger joint, however after my first lunch experience I was not that impressed. Satisfied, yes, impressed no. The burgers were okay but not in the realm of the Squeeze Inn, Ford’s, or In and out. I ordered their Hammer #4. You would think that the second to the largest burger would have been a lot of food, it was not. Maybe I am just a pig. In the end if you are looking for …

Today we tried a new place called The Beach Hut. They serve some pretty darn good sandwiches. In my opinion they are on par with Dad’s sandwiches. I had sandwich (forgot the name) that had avocado, cream cheese, roast beef, and bacon. I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a great lunch.

We headed over to Ford’s Hamburger after I was told the burgers were the best in town. While I agree they had very good burgers, I really can’t give them the top prize. Squeeze Inn had about the best burger I have ever tasted. Ahhh, all that cheese.

The Bread Store was our choice of eateries today for lunch. The Bread Store is at 1716 J Street. I have never been disappointed with my lunch at The Bread Store. The bread is always very fresh (hence the name “Bread Store”). The staff was friendly as usual. I took a few other people and they too enjoyed their lunch.

The best corn in the world can be found about 25 miles outside of downtown. That is if you like sweet corn. Davis Ranch in Sloughhouse is now selling their first crop of freshly picked sweet corn. If you have never been to Davis Ranch it is located on Jackson Highway or Highway 16 in Sloughhouse, about 5 miles before Rancho Murieta. It is surrounded by crops (mainly corn this time of year). Very often the vegetables you are buying were picked earlier that day. We get several types of vegetables …

A while back I posted about sushi here is Sac. Most of the time when I talk about sushi and I bring up Mikunis I am told how they are good, but not as good as other places and over priced. I agree that Mikunis is over priced, but I think their sushi is good. Yesterday we tried a new place that was recommended to us. Ichi Maki is located at 11291 Folsom Blvd in Rancho Cordova. Their rolls were excellent and about $3 less that Mikunis. I hade their …

Today we went to Pooja Indian Grill. It is located at 1223 Merkley Ave in West Sacramento. The food and service was good. I do not eat at a lot of Indian restaurants, but I have tried a few and this was a very good one. The food was tasty and hot. The food had a bite, but not too hot. Definitely a winner.

Have you ever tried Carolina’s Mexican Food? Today we headed over there for lunch. They have 5 locations and we hit the one at 3840 Franklin Blvd. The food was pretty good, but IMO no better than many other Mexican food restaurants. They also charged $1.50 to the ATM and since I rarely carry cash I felt that I got ripped off. Oh well I guess that was my fault. In the end the food was good but nothing to write home about.

I seem to post mostly restaurants and eateries that I have enjoyed. Most of the new place I eat have been recommended so they have already been tested. Well the wife and I were looking for a place to have dinner and Red Lobster came to mind. We enjoy almost all seafood and we had not been to Red Lobster in probably 5 years and now I know why. We headed over to the Red Lobster on Howe. I am not sure if it was just this location but the …

Over at LivingInUrbanSac I found a decent post of chain vs non-chain restaurants in downtown. While I do like to eat at original eateries, I have no issue with chain style restaurants as long as the food is good and the service is up to par. One local restaurant that I find myself at is Mikuni’s. I work very close to the midtown location and find that they always have a lively upscale crowd, however the Hazel location make a much better roll in my opinion. I have only tried …
