Sacramento city website was hacked

The City of Sacramento has been hacked. Well at least their webpage was hacked. The web page was hacked to say “HaCKed by El _MhUaMMcD. This Turkish Hacker.”

The problem was discover around 9am yesterday. According to city officials the city’s main site was hacked along with the site for parks and recreation as well as the convention center.

The city police department has been notified, however this attack appears to be localized to the web server. No other data was compromised.

California DUI Deaths Drop to Record Low

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced today that California’s DUI deaths reached their lowest level ever in 2010. This also signifies the largest single yearly drop of DUI deaths in the past 14 years. A record low of 791 persons were tragically killed in DUI crashes on California roadways last year, compared to 950 in 2009. DUI deaths in California increased yearly from 1998 to 2005, but have decreased every year since 2005.

“This marks a huge milestone in the fight against drunk driving,” said California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) Director Christopher J. Murphy. “While we are elated by these figures, there were still 791 lives, futures, and dreams that will never be fully realized. We cannot back off from our ultimate goal – toward zero deaths.”

Suspect Arrested for the Murder of Sean Aquitania and his 8-month old son.

A suspect as been arrested in the cold blooded murder of Sean Aquitania and his 8-month old son in 2007. The crime occurred in September of 2007 in South Sacramento.

According to officers, Sean Aquitania brought his son to the home of a friend. There were two men waiting to rob it the home. Witnesses say two men took Sean at gunpoint and led him into his friend’s home. Sean apparently struggled with the gunmen. He was shot twice and died at the scene. The gunmen fled the house and stopped at Sean’s car just long enough to fire a single shot into his 8-month-old son’s forehead.

25+ New Cops on Sacramento Streets

The Department of Justice announced which law enforcement departments across the country will get federal grant money. Sacramento made the list and will be getting new officers.

The Sacramento Police Department is getting more than $8 million from the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. They will use the money to hire 25 additional officers. Sacramento Sheriffs was also awarded a grant to retain or hire deputies.

Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force Nabs Counterfeiter

The ALLDATA Anti-Piracy team in conjunction with the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force concluded a six-month investigation into illegally copied ALLDATA products being sold out of Northern California.

The subject of this investigation was publicly advertising the pirated software in his efforts to distribute it. Undercover officers conversed with the target who agreed to provide the illegal product in exchange for cash. After the actions of the suspect placed him in violation of California law, he was taken into custody.

The efforts of the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force in collaboration with the ALLDATA Anti-Piracy Team resulted in the subject being charged with felony counts of Possession / Sale of Counterfeit Articles in reference to penal code 350 (A) (2) which states that the offense involves 1,000 or more articles. The subject pleaded guilty to felony charges in Superior Criminal Court.

Contractor plead guilty to fraud on Sacramento City retrofit projects

A Roseville contractor by the name of Peter Scott pleaded guilty to two counts of submitting false contractor bonds. Scott is accused of creating false surety bond documentation and submitting the, as part of his bid applications for $3.465 million in contracts. The bonds were for $5 million and purportedly issued by Merchants Bonding Company.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Scott admitted in plea deal that he used an old Merchants Bonding bond form and made up a fictional attorney whose signature was on the bonds.

Sacramento Area Principal Arrested for Child Molestation

Principal of Creative Frontiers, Robert B. Adams, has been arrested on charges of molestation. This is not the first time molestation accusations have been made against Adams, but these are the first charges filed.

A total of seven girls have come forward with the accusations. Two of the seven students at Adams’ Creative Frontiers School in Citrus Heights accused Adams back in 2000. Another girl come forward in 1996. Bethany Soloman, a teacher at the school, said she saw Adams put his hand under the skirt of a young girl who was sitting on his lap in his office in 2007. There was no indication if that incident was reported to the authorities.

Adams has several parents that are supporting him. They have even setup a Facebook page declaring their support. Margaret Briem is one such parent. She said on the Creative Frontiers School Facebook page;

Detectives Seek Information Regarding Homicide Victim

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are seeking information regarding the actions and whereabouts of 59-year old Marilyn Nash  from August 31st to the morning of September 1st. Nash’s body was discovered at around 7:00 a.m. on September 1st, near the southbound Highway 99 on-ramp from westbound Florin Road. Nash was the victim of a homicide, although the exact cause of her death is still being investigated.

Deputies responded to a call from a man who had been walking eastbound Florin Road approaching the Highway 99 overpass, and saw the victim, Nash, lying motionless in an embankment off of the roadway. Detectives have no information regarding any suspects in this case, and have not established a motive for the incident.

Woman Found Dead in South Sacramento

Earlier this morning, shortly after 7:00 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to the area of Florin Road and Highway 99 regarding a woman’s body found there. A male caller said that while walking to work, he observed the woman lying motionless in the embankment and landscaped area at westbound Florin Road to the southbound Highway 99 off-ramp. Deputies arrived along with paramedics, who pronounced the woman deceased at the scene.

The victim appears to be a dark-skinned female. Her age and identity are not known at this time. Although the cause of death is still under investigation, homicide detectives have responded to the scene.

Fifth Suspect Arrested in Homicide

Earlier this afternoon, Sheriff’s Homicide detectives arrested Aubry Toews, 21, in connection with a homicide last month at an apartment in north Sacramento County. Toews was taken into custody around 11:15 a.m. at a residence in Sacramento County and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of murder, burglary and attempted robbery. She is being held without bail.

On July 29, 2011, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a shooting at an apartment complex in the 5700 block of Manzanita Avenue. Deputies found Michael Sanderson, 54, inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Sanderson was transported to a hospital and died of his injuries a short time later.
