A Caltrans employee was killed today on Highway 99 north of Sacramento.
At 8:20 a.m., Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker Dean Patton, 51, of Grass Valley was riding his motorcycle on Highway 99 at Riego Road when he was struck by a vehicle. Patton was traveling on his day off to the Workers Memorial Ceremony being held at the state Capitol.
Patton started his career with Caltrans in 2006, and spent the vast majority of his career at the Marysville Special Crews Yard on the “Storm Water Crew.” He recently moved to the Nevada City Maintenance Yard. He is survived by his wife Trisha Flud, mother Joann Baldasarra, son Seth Sherman, daughters Jessica Zeno and Felisha Dow, and three granddaughters, Brianna, Alyssa and Savahna.
“Caltrans is mourning this tremendous loss that the Patton family and their friends have suffered,” said Caltrans Director Malcolm Dougherty. “My heart goes out to his wife, Trisha, children, and grandchildren. He was a good man and will be missed by all who worked with him and knew him. “
Caltrans reminds motorists to drive with caution and always to “Slow for the Cone Zone.”
