Shackled Emaciated Teen Runs To Gym

A missing teenager ran into a fitness center Monday with an inch-thick chain shackled to his ankle, and he may have been held captive, Tracy police said. Wearing just boxer briefs, the 17-year-old burst into an InShape Fitness Center at about 4 p.m., said Chuck Ellis, who works at the gym.

Wal-Mart Worker Dies During Black Friday Event

Police say a Wal-Mart worker has died after being trampled by a throng of unruly shoppers shortly after the Long Island store opened Friday. Nassau County police said the 34-year-old worker was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at about 6 a.m., an hour after the store opened. Police also said a 28-year-old pregnant woman was taken to a hospital for observation.

Lucky Turkey Lives On

Some people say cats have nine lives, and so might a turkey that not only avoided the dinner table but also a truck crash that killed many of its brethren. The bird fell from a truck Nov. 18 shortly before the rig crashed on Highway 16 just west of Dillard Road.

Are Cows To Blame For Valley’s Dirty Air?

Some experts say cows — not cars — are causing most of the dirty air in the San Joaquin Valley. A citizen group recently filed a lawsuit claiming air district leaders aren’t doing enough to control cow pollution in the area, but this week an appeals court sided with the air district. The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District wouldn’t comment on the lawsuit.
