The California Highway Patrol is investigating a pedestrian fatality in Elverta on Friday morning. CHP Officer Lizz Dutton said Malkiat Hothi, 71, of Elverta, was struck and killed as he stepped onto Elverta Road west of El Rio Avenue at approximately 5:10 a.m.

The man was killed when a pickup truck hit him. The 32 year old driver was not identified. We do know he was a Yuba City man. The CHP said the driver was traveling in the eastbound lane of Elverta Road at about 50 miles per hour. It was dark out at the time and there are no street lights or sidewalks along that stretch of Elverta Road.
