The Sacramento City Council voted Tuesday to boycott Arizona. A move that has angered many area residents. Many people can not understand why the City of Sacramento has any business fighting laws in the state of Arizona.
The vote was 6-1 with the only person to vote against the boycott was Councilman Robbie Waters. Waters has said all along that he wouldn’t support a boycott. Sacramento’s boycott means no city employees can travel to Arizona. Sacramento will also not sign any new contracts with businesses based in Arizona and won’t renew existing contracts once they’re up.
California’s immigration laws are very similar to Arizona’s but there was no talk of boycotting California. When asked about the similarities, Sacramento Mayor Johnson said he does not believe it’s the same thing. Kevin Johnson said, “There’s a big difference between similar and exact.”
Kevin Johnson’s is referring to California Penal Code 834b. Mayor Johnson said, “Arizona you can detain someone based on how they look, California law is not that. Our law says if your arrested for a crime, and detained, then we can ask for papers.”
Kevin Johnson clearly has not read the Arizona law. The Arizona law explicitly prohibits using race to determine anyone’s legal status. The Arizona law also states that you must be stopped for something else before an officer can ask for identification. Kevin Johnson apparently does not read the items he is voting on.
In a time of huge budget deficits th City of Sacramento continues to spend public money on a political stunt. Sacramento City staff have been attempting to compile lists of businesses that are based in Arizona. In reality many companies have offices in Arizona and California. Boycotting these business will hurt California residents.
There is also a movement started through Facebook to boycott Sacramento. Many are angry and plan on taking out that frustration on local businesses. We spoke to one business who has 89 employees in the midtown area that plans on moving. Today they have started to look at other locations outside of the city limits. The political pandering of Mayor Johnson and Rob Fong will cost the city of Sacramento a great deal of money.

unreal clowns fiddle while “Sacramento” goes under, walk the streets nears any light rail station, and all this will be coming to your neighborhood soon.
Like the small of ka-ka and urine in the morning, get used to it.

Sacramentos city council are fools to say the least. We should boycott any city in CA that follows suit. Also boycott any known sanctuary city such as San Francisco. AZ has a huge problem and they are trying to survive. We cannot take in the whold world and survive as a nation.
